Outside its home continent, Durban is easily the best-known African cannabis strain. This chunky subtropical sativa grows abundantly across southern Africa and is enjoyed everywhere. Durban Feminized cannabis seeds are a perfect outdoor sativa for growers of all experience levels. She’s quick, fungus-resistant and a great producer, even in a dubious summer!
Durban remains one of the purest outdoor sativa varieties in the Sensi Seeds collection. Great care was taken to preserve her original family line and genotype in Sensi Seeds next update to this classic cannabis. Just as their first Durban seed strain was acclimatised only by breeding select plants from its old and stable gene pool, Durban Feminized cannabis seeds were developed by backcrossing within that same rock solid lineage.
Durban is classed as a sativa because it originates in a subtropical zone and can grow and flower happily in a photoperiod that stays within a few hours of 12/12 all year round. However, the strain as a whole is somewhat shorter in stature and significantly faster to flower than a typical sativa, and the Durban genotype produces much harder, denser flower clusters.
Durban Feminized cannabis seeds produce plants with strong lateral branches around a thick main stem. Flowering is quick and prolific; hard calyxes cluster at the nodes, then run upwards, filling most gaps in the top half of the stem and branches. Pistils are relatively short and thick, often displaying pink or creamy yellow hues before turning darker as the plants mature.
In its land of origin, large crops of Durban are often grown with minimal tending, as the plants are considered tough enough to look after themselves! Naturally, cannabis enthusiasts and medicinal growers will usually provide their precious plants with much more attentive care. In any case, Durban Feminized seeds are forgiving of common grower mistakes. She embodies the robust, resilient nature of her family line and can produce a great harvest in an unreliable northern growing season.
Plants are uniform in structure and grow at a steady pace. Outdoor height gain in flowering is manageable and plants can be kept around 150cm if necessary. To maximise plant size and harvest, Durban Feminized cannabis seeds can be started indoors as early as March and plants may finish around 250cm if they are not pruned or cut back throughout their growing and flowering cycle.
Commercially grown Durban from South Africa can be found in many parts of the world. It’s known for a strong cerebral high that sails smoothly on top of a powerful body-warming buzz. Many users can instantly recognise this imported ‘dagga’ by its earthy, citrus bouquet.
Durban Feminized seeds give you the chance to make your own garden the point of origin for this excellent outdoor seed strain!
When treated well, Durban Feminized buds have a rich and complex range of aromas and flavours. Most common are sweet and fruity scents with strong overtones of lemon and more subtle aniseed notes. Plants of this family which display noticeably darker foliage than their sisters will often have a more earthy smell when flowering, which later ripens into aromas reminiscent of chocolate, coffee or sandalwood.
Durban Feminized has excellent resin production for an outdoor cannabis seed strain. Mature buds are formed from hard clusters of angular calyxes bubbling out at every node and bract. The colas of bud which fill the upper stem and tops of branches are blanketed with a thick coating of resin glands, as are the edges of the few small, single bladed leaves that grow from the biggest bud clusters.
This strain has a distinct sativa mixed with a strong body effect. Some longtime admirers enjoy her soothing, elevating high. While very potent, Durban Feminized doesn’t impart the soporific and energy sapping ‘stone’ of some indicas.
Durban can grow and flower beautifully in any climate, from temperate to tropical. If you’re thinking about growing a sativa in a normal garden or balcony setting, you‘re looking for plants whose characteristics make them easier and more manageable. Durban Feminized has all of those important features – she’s tough, forgiving and produces feminized plants which won’t grow too tall. She’s also fast in flowering, very productive and a potent medicinal or recreational plant.
There is no other seed bank in the world that has been coveted with more awards than Sensi Seeds. From the Highlife Cup to the Cannabis Cup, Sensi have achieved unrivalled legendary status in the seed bank world.
At the end of the seventies, Ben found out that cannabis seeds did not fall under the cannabis prohibition; it was only the plant that was prohibited and not the seeds. As it was not illegal to sell seeds, Ben reasoned that the production process should not be illegal either. He started his seed company after a lawyer confirmed this insight and in 1985 the Sensi Seed Club, also known as the Sensi Connoisseurs’ Club, came into being. Ben took over a company called the Seed Bank in 1991 and the gene libraries were merged to create the Sensi Seed Bank as we know it today.
Sensi Seeds search for cannabis genetics has never ceased in the last 30 years. Their dedication towards genetic preservation has also never diminished. To this day, Sensi are true to their roots and are now, more than ever, aware that the future of cannabis genetic research lies in its past, in the genetics that started it all.
Sensi genetics offer not only the high yield and range of effects people search for, they actually represent a part of Cannabis’ history.
